This Tibetan thangka painting of Green Tara features rich, splendid colors. It uses cinnabar red as the background color, with intricate and exquisite gold decorations and painted details.
In this thangka, the central deity, Green Tara, has vibrant emerald green skin and wears a golden crown inlaid with jewels. Her expression is serene and gentle. She is adorned with golden jewelry such as necklaces and armlets, and draped in flowing celestial scarves. She sits in half-lotus posture on a lotus pedestal, with her right hand in the gesture of granting wishes (varada mudra) and her left hand holding an utpala flower, presenting an elegant pose.
As a fine Tibetan thangka, the main figure is surrounded by a golden aureole and auspicious cloud patterns painted in gold outline. Above her are depicted the Five Dhyani Buddhas. Below, the attendant bodhisattvas, lotus petals, auspicious clouds, mountains, and waters are arranged in a regular, orderly manner — a composition that reflects Buddhist mandala art with its harmonious symmetry and ritual geometry.
The entire thangka painting makes extensive use of gold tracing. The lines are delicate and smooth, and the color contrasts are striking, fully demonstrating the sacredness, solemnity, and superb artistry of Tibetan thangka painting.
